Drill Stops for Drill Bit, Spotfacer and Countersink

LOCK-N-STITCH® Inc.’s drill stops are used to control the depth of the lock hole patterns and for controlling the depth of the drill hole when installing the stitching pins in blind holes.  By allowing the drill bit to only penetrate to a predetermined depth, many common drilling errors can be avoided.  Drill stops will help you drill precision holes and break fewer drill bits.

The special design of the stops for spotfacers and countersinks enables you to see the hole you are working on better than the standard drill stops.  Because the contact surface is so small, you can accurately set and maintain the depth of the spotface.  Spotface depth is critical to the performance of all CASTMASTER®TM pins.  If the spotface is too shallow, the strength and holding power of the pin will be reduced.  It is a requirement for installation of CASTMASTER®TM pins to always spotface the drilled holes before tapping them.  If the spotface is too deep, there may not be enough material left for threads.  This is especially important in thin material.

The depth of the countersink is equally important.  L Series pins only require a countersink when the cast iron is too hard to allow the shoulder of the pin to crush into the surface of the casting.  Countersinking allows the shoulder to sink below the surface so that a perfect surface finish can be accomplished.  L Series pins require only a very slight countersink for maximum benefit.  Countersinking is not done for the purpose of sealing.

Remember:
The larger the bit, the slower the RPM.
The harder the material, the slower the RPM.
